Single-flighted Screw element

Product Name: Single-flighted Screw element
Model:φ15 mm ~φ350mm
Applicable Brands:Most well-known extruders on the market.
Material: Tool steel, HIP, stainless steel, nickel-based alloy, cobalt-based alloy, etc.
Properties:Wear-resisting, Corrode-resisting and Durable
The Single-flighted Screw element is often used in the feeding section of twin-screw extruders to increase material storage space and enhance conveyance speed. It is particularly suitable for low-density powder materials, effectively boosting the output of twin-screw extruders. Its sickle-shaped cross-section ensures self-cleaning of the screw teeth.
Structural Features:
The single-flighted screw element features a core structure of one continuous helical flight, distributed along the screw axis in a single spiral line, forming a single screw channel. The flight and core shaft are integrally forged to ensure structural integrity and torsional strength. The screw channel is relatively deep, with a pitch typically set in proportion to the screw diameter, and the flight is relatively wide with rounded edges to reduce material retention. The surface is often reinforced by nitriding or quenching to enhance wear resistance and corrosion resistance, making it suitable for long-term continuous operation.
Functional Roles:
High Conveying Efficiency: The single-channel design reduces the obstruction of materials by the flight, allowing materials to advance smoothly along the spiral direction. Its conveying efficiency is significantly higher than that of multi-flighted elements, making it particularly suitable for continuous conveying of large-flow materials and enabling rapid transportation of raw materials from the feeding section to subsequent processing areas.
Low-shear Protection: The wider flight and deep channel structure reduce the shear force exerted on materials during conveying, which can prevent heat-sensitive and easily degradable materials (such as PVC and some engineering plastics) from molecular chain breakage or performance deterioration caused by excessive shearing, achieving gentle processing.
Stable Pressure Conduction: The material flow in the single channel is more coherent with less pressure loss, which can maintain stable pressure conduction during long-distance conveying, reduce extrusion volume deviation caused by pressure fluctuations, and ensure production continuity.
Applications:
Processing of Heat-sensitive Materials: In scenarios such as PVC pipe extrusion and PET sheet production, its low-shear property is used to protect material performance and prevent discoloration, scorching, and other issues.
High-flow Conveying in the Feeding Section: As a feeding element of twin-screw extruders, it can efficiently convey low bulk density materials (such as glass fiber and mineral powder) or raw materials with limited feeding capacity, improving overall production efficiency.
Food and Pharmaceutical Fields: In the extrusion molding of food packaging films (such as PE cling film) and medical plastic bottles, its gentle processing property can reduce additive precipitation, meeting hygiene and safety standards.
Pre-conveying in Reactive Extrusion: In the initial stage of polymer reactive extrusion, it is used to stably convey solid or high-viscosity raw materials to the reaction section, providing a stable material supply for subsequent chemical reactions, such as in the polymerization extrusion process of polyamide.
With the characteristics of high-efficiency conveying, low shear, and stable pressure, the single-flighted screw element has become a core component in scenarios requiring gentle processing or large-flow conveying, widely used in plastics, food, pharmaceutical, and other fields.
